Mercedes-Benz EQS and EQE owners can charge at Tesla Superchargers across North America using Plug & Charge through the Mercedes me Charge service. Since February 2025, Mercedes-Benz has supported seamless Supercharger access—plug in, and charging starts and bills automatically. No Tesla app required at the stall.
Part of our complete guide to charging non-Tesla EVs at Superchargers.
At Velectr, we design EV charging hardware for real-world use. This guide covers the full process: enabling Plug & Charge, connecting at the stall, what charging speeds to expect from the EQS and EQE, and practical tips for the best experience.
What You'll Need
- A NACS → CCS1 adapter — The EQS and EQE use a CCS1 inlet. Tesla Superchargers use a NACS connector. An adapter bridges the connection. Mercedes-Benz also sells an official adapter through authorized dealerships.
- Plug & Charge enabled via dealer software update — A complimentary software update at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership is required to activate Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers. Contact your dealer to schedule the update if you haven't already.
- Mercedes me Charge account — Ensure your Mercedes me Charge account is active with a valid payment method. Billing for Supercharger sessions flows through Mercedes me Charge.
Step-by-Step: Charging a Mercedes EQS or EQE at a Tesla Supercharger
-
Confirm Plug & Charge is enabled.
Your vehicle needs the dealer software update to support Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers. If you haven't received the update yet, contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer—it's complimentary for all compatible vehicles. -
Bring a NACS → CCS1 adapter.
The EQS and EQE use a CCS1 inlet. Tesla Superchargers use a NACS connector. A NACS → CCS1 adapter is required to physically connect the Supercharger cable to your vehicle. The adapter does not control charging speed—it enables a safe, high-current connection. -
Navigate to a supported Tesla Supercharger.
Use your MBUX Navigation with Electric Intelligence or Mercedes me Charge to find Tesla Supercharger locations enabled for non-Tesla vehicles. These are typically V3 and V4 Supercharger sites. Tesla Superchargers are now integrated into Mercedes-Benz navigation for optimized route planning. -
Park with cable reach in mind.
The EQS charge port is on the rear passenger side. The EQE charge port is also rear passenger side. Tesla Supercharger cables are designed for vehicles with rear-mounted ports, so cable reach is generally good.- Pull-through or back-in stalls typically work well.
- V4 Superchargers have longer cables for easier access.
- End stalls give you extra room to maneuver.
-
Attach the adapter to the Supercharger handle first.
Before plugging into the vehicle:- Seat the adapter fully onto the Tesla NACS handle.
- Confirm it locks securely (you should feel/hear the lock engage).
- Then insert the CCS1 side into the vehicle's charge port.
-
Plug & Charge starts automatically.
This is the standard experience for Mercedes-Benz EV owners with the software update.- No stall selection required.
- No Tesla app or credit card at the charger.
- The vehicle authenticates with the Supercharger automatically.
- Billing flows through Mercedes me Charge.
-
Monitor charging from the vehicle or Mercedes me app.
Charging status appears on the MBUX display and in the Mercedes me app. Charging power will ramp up initially, then taper as the battery fills—this is normal DC fast-charging behavior controlled by the battery management system. -
Once charging is complete.
Stop the session via the vehicle screen, Mercedes me app, or charge port button. Disconnect the adapter from the vehicle first, then remove the adapter from the Tesla handle, then replace the Tesla handle in the charging station.
Mercedes Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers: Setup & Payment Method
Mercedes-Benz integrated Tesla Supercharger access through the Mercedes me Charge service. After a complimentary dealer software update, Plug & Charge works automatically:
- You plug in.
- The vehicle and Supercharger authenticate using secure vehicle credentials.
- Charging begins immediately.
- Payment is processed through your Mercedes me Charge account when the session ends.
This means you don't need a Tesla app or Tesla account to charge at Superchargers. Everything is handled through your existing Mercedes-Benz ecosystem. Session details and billing appear in the Mercedes me app.
Haven't received the update yet? Contact your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the complimentary software update. Mercedes-Benz is proactively contacting eligible vehicle owners, but you can also request it directly.
Model year note: Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers is available for 2022 and newer EQS and EQE models. Some earlier model year vehicles (particularly MY2022–23 EQB models) experienced delayed firmware availability. If your dealer says the update isn't available for your vehicle yet, ask them to check for the latest firmware release.
What Charging Speeds to Expect
Charging performance varies by model, battery size, state of charge, temperature, and charger capability.
Mercedes-Benz EQS (2022–2025)
- Battery: ~108 kWh (usable)
- Peak charging power: approximately 200 kW
- Architecture: 400V
- Typical 10–80% time: approximately 31–35 minutes
Mercedes-Benz EQE (2023–2025)
- Battery: ~90 kWh (usable)
- Peak charging power: approximately 170 kW
- Architecture: 400V
- Typical 10–80% time: approximately 32–36 minutes
Both vehicles use a 400V architecture. On Tesla V3 Superchargers (250 kW max), expect charging to peak in the 170–200 kW range and taper as the battery fills. The strongest charging performance occurs between roughly 10% and 55% state of charge.
Charging slows significantly above 80%. For road trips, plan to charge from ~15% to ~75–80% for the fastest turnaround.
Tesla Supercharging Membership (Optional Cost Savings)
Non-Tesla EV owners typically pay a higher per-kWh rate at Superchargers compared to Tesla vehicle owners. However, you can unlock Tesla owner pricing by purchasing a Supercharging Membership through the Tesla app.
What it does:
A Supercharging Membership allows non-Tesla EV owners to Supercharge at the same per-kWh price as Tesla vehicle owners—often a significant discount depending on location.
Key details:
- One membership covers all your vehicles—you don't need to buy one per vehicle.
- Monthly subscription fee applies (pricing is set by Tesla and varies by region).
- Savings depend on how frequently you use Superchargers.
How to sign up:
- Open the Tesla app
- Tap the menu in the top-right corner
- Tap "Charging"
- Tap "Membership"
- Tap the "Sign Up" button
Is the membership worth it?
If you road trip frequently and rely on Tesla Superchargers regularly, the membership typically pays for itself within a few charging sessions. If you only Supercharge occasionally—say once or twice a month—pay-per-use pricing may be more cost-effective. The break-even point depends on your region's pricing and how many kWh you charge per session.
Note: While charging sessions are initiated and billed through Mercedes me Charge, the Supercharging Membership is managed separately through the Tesla app. The membership discount applies regardless of how you start the session.
Troubleshooting & Tips
-
Get the dealer software update first.
Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers requires the complimentary software update from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. Without it, the vehicle won't authenticate with the Supercharger. -
Adapter seating matters.
Always confirm the adapter is fully seated and locked onto the Supercharger handle before plugging into the vehicle. -
Precondition the battery.
Use MBUX Navigation with Electric Intelligence to route to a Supercharger. The vehicle will precondition the battery en route for optimal charging speed. -
Expect tapering.
Slower charging at higher state of charge is normal, intentional, and protects battery longevity. -
Idle fees apply.
Once charging completes, Tesla begins charging idle fees if you don't disconnect promptly. Fees increase at busy locations. -
Session won't start?
Confirm your dealer software update has been applied. Try a different stall. Ensure your Mercedes me Charge account has a valid payment method. If issues persist, you can fall back to the Tesla app as a backup method.
⚡ Paying ~$0.35/kWh at Superchargers? Charge at home for ~$0.12/kWh.
Most Mercedes-Benz EQS/EQE owners do 80% of their charging at home. If you have a Tesla Wall Connector or Destination Charger, the Velectr NACS to J1772 Adapter ($99.99) lets you plug in overnight — no app, no session fees. It pays for itself in weeks.
Where the Velectr NACS → CCS1 Adapter Fits
At Tesla Superchargers, the Velectr NACS → CCS1 Adapter enables the physical and electrical connection between the Supercharger cable and your Mercedes-Benz's CCS1 inlet. Charging power is negotiated directly between the vehicle and the charger—the adapter supports that process by providing a stable, safety-focused connection under real-world DC fast-charging conditions.
Mercedes-Benz also offers an official adapter through authorized dealerships. Either adapter serves the same purpose—bridging the NACS Supercharger connector to the CCS1 vehicle inlet.
